The real-life Lolita, Sally Horner, was an 11 year old girl kidnapped by a 50 year old man right around the time that Nabokov wrote the literary novel Lolita. In fact, the novelist even referred to her case as one of the inspirations for his most famous book. But Sally’s point of view was never considered in Nabokov’s story. Not to downgrade its value as a work of art, but the story certainly doesn’t serve its tween tragedy of origin. Thankfully, the voices in our literary world are evolving.
